How can you make a successful consumer complaint?

The complaint process provides consumers with a means of seeking redress. To ensure a speedy and approporiate resolutions, it is important for consumers to be vigilant and complain successfully. 

The Consumer Protection Unit has identified some tips to assist consumers with filing succesful complaints.

  1. Complain immediately when you realise you have a deffective good
  2. Do not wait until the warranty period has expired before you make your complaint.
  3. Write a letter or explain the problem in person.
  4. Make sure you have all your receipts and other documents related to the complaint.
  5. If you are writing a letter be sure you clearly state the problem in point form. Note the date on which the problem occurred. Send copies of all relevant documents
  6. If making a complaint in person, clearly and courteously state your problem to the stores personnel. Try not to get angry. If you are not satisfied with the the response, call the consumer protection hotline at 0-800-2-TELL-US or 0-800-283-5587.
